I met with a client this afternoon (a major investor) and he remarked that there are too many professionals because there are not enough deals. I reflected on his comment, and alas I agree. Most businesses have scaled-back, doing more with less. But the real loss is with the next generation of young talent who are hunting for fewer jobs.

The Wall Street Journal ran a front-page feature article this weekend about the “Struggles of the Lost Generation.” According to the article, Americans under 25 make up a disproportionality large number of the unemployed. Closer to home, yet again with fewer deals, real estate has more talent gaps than any other industry as a result of the highly circular nature of our business. My call to arms is for real estate businesses to focus on Intern opportunities . . . it's simple math . . . we need the next generation of talent, so help make it happen.
