LOS ANGELES-The remarketing division of Tiger Group is liquidating a renewable energy plant formerly owned by EnerTech Environmental in an asset auction that will accept bids through September 26. The unique plant is valued at $100 million and features a wastewater treatment facility, a sewage sludge drying line and advanced technology that does not compare to any other renewable energy facility in the nation.

“Companies involved in wastewater treatment and waste-to-energy projects will be interested in this dual purpose facility, which is being offered as a turnkey operation,” says Jeff Tanenbaum, president of Tiger's Remarketing Services Division. “The Rialto facility was built to provide a long-term recycling plan for five municipalities in the Los Angeles region by converting their wastewater sludge into a renewable solid fuel called eFuel.”

EnerTech Environmental closed the facility in October 2012 after opening the site in 2009. Soon after closing, the company subsided. “Before running into financial troubles and shuttering operations, the plant had processed approximately 250,000 wet tons of wastewater sludge and produced over 75,000 tons of eFuel pellets, which it sold to local cement kilns and demonstrated in combustion power plant applications,” says Tanenbaum. Waste-to-energy programs are continually growing, and Tiger Group has already received serious inquiries about the auction.

All facility systems remained intact on the property after closing, including the plant's wet operation equipment featuring 400,000-gallon digesters that give 800,000 gallons of anaerobic digesting capacity and 250,000- and 400,000-gallon aeration basins, as well as a 400-wet-ton-per-day rotary drum dryer that supports the dry operation. Support, lab and facility equipment are also included in the asset.

Renewable energy is springing up throughout the city. Recently, GlobeSt.com reported construction of three new solar-powered carports at public parks in Thousand Oaks.
