DALLAS-A story posted last week on GlobeSt.com reported that the Dallas City Council's Economic Development Committee approved spending $750,000 in grant funds on pre-construction expenses related to a proposed project on 3.8 acres in the Vickery Meadows area of Dallas.

In clarifying the issue, a spokesman for the City of Dallas tells GlobeSt.com that the city had initiated a request for proposal process to find a developer for the site, with DMA Development and Carleton Residential the preferred team recommended by city staff. "Previously, the plan was to simply build a library on the site," he explains. "There was no prior proposal from DMA/Carleton or any other party."

Since that time, the project has expanded from simply a library to a potential mixed-use development. The proposed project could include a health clinic and retail component, along with the library and up to 300 multifamily units. The project will likely cost approximately $41 million, and the city would like to see a ribbon-cutting within the next two years.

Dallas City Council will vote on the pre-construction expenses proposal on Sept. 25.
