Did Incentives or Competition Kill Bass Pro Shops Project?

AUGUSTA, GA-Earlier this week came word that Bass Pro Shops was not moving forward with a plan to build a new 50,000-square-foot store here. Columbia County officials say that the retailer at the 11th hour asked for additional incentives that they found unreasonable.

AUGUSTA, GA-Earlier this week came word that Bass Pro Shops was not moving forward with a plan to build a new 50,000-square-foot store here. Columbia County officials say that the retailer at the 11th hour asked for additional incentives that they found unreasonable.

According to County Administrator Scott Johnson, Bass Pro Shops informed the county it wanted additional incentives, including “the cost of their vertical construction up to $10 million,” according to The Augusta Chronicle. Those demands were not something the county was willing to consider, Johnson says.
