NEW YORK CITY–The Rockefeller Group announced Monday the signing of a 187,000-square-foot lease with Mayer Brown at 1221 Avenue of the Americas, the 50-story office tower anchoring the western border of Rockefeller Center between West 48th and West 49th Streets.

Mayer Brown, a global legal services firm with a presence throughout the Americas, Europe and Asia, signed a long-term lease for the entire 11th through 14th floors of 1221 Avenue of the Americas. The firm, which has more than 200 lawyers in its New York office, will relocate to the building in late 2014.

Richard Spehr, partner-in-charge of Mayer Brown's New York office, says, “We are thrilled with our impending move to 1221 6th Ave. Our new space in this premier building will be designed to serve the needs of our global clients for years to come.”

The tenant was represented by CBRE's EVPs Bob Flippin and Andrew Sussman; Anthony Dattoma, SVP and Lauren Crowley, VP. The Rockefeller Group was represented by an in-house team led by Edward Guiltinan, Sr., VP and director of leasing, along with a Cushman & Wakefield team led by John Cefaly, executive vice chairman. C&W landed the assignment to market the structure, one of the five largest office towers in Manhattan, in June.

The lease brings total new leases at 1221 Avenue of the Americas in 2013 to 282,648 square feet. New leases and renewals in the building have totaled 817,000 square feet since mid-2011. Approximately 400,000 square feet of office space is available at the building.

“We are pleased that Mayer Brown elected to relocate to 1221 Avenue of the Americas,” says Guiltinan, VP and head of leasing in New York for the Rockefeller Group. “We're encouraged by the strong demand for the remaining available space in the building, as tenants in the market recognize the outstanding location, efficiency, amenities, prominence and overall desirability that 1221 offers.”

The building was designed as one of four towers constituting the modern expansion of Rockefeller Center on the west side of Sixth Avenue. It features large, efficient floor plates and expansive open-air plazas that surround the building on all four sides. It is interconnected through a concourse level to all of Rockefeller Center and seven subway lines. The class-A building totals approximately 2.5 million square feet and includes a 345-seat auditorium managed by McGraw Hill, which was the building's original headquarters tenant.
