LOS ANGELES-TCA Architects has won two first place or Grand Awards from the National Association of Home Builders during the 2013 Pillars of the Industry Awards. The firm, which specializes in designing progressive multifamily and mixed-use urban residential developments, was recognized for its innovative designs that attract the millennial generation.

“We couldn't be more excited about these most recent award recognitions from the NAHB,” says Aram Chahbazian, TCA president. “These two awards and the reception the properties have received from the marketplace are confirmation that we have exceeded our highest expectations.”

TCA won the Best Garden Apartment Community for Domain San Diego, a modern, 379-unit apartment community developed by Wood Partners. The community has 12 floor plans, each with floor-to-ceiling windows and high-end finishes, like granite counter tops, stainless steel appliances and large oval-shaped bathtubs. However, the expansive outdoor area is the community highlight, where an onsite recreation center features an over-sized pool with cabanas, barbeque area, waterfalls and trellises.

TCA earned the second Grand Award for Best Mid Rise for its ICIS community In Glendale, a 186-unit environmentally sensitive apartment community featuring bike storage areas, onsite recycling programs, easy access to public transit and a walkable community. The interior units have refined finishes—like granite countertops, walk-in closets, oversized bathtubs and stackable washers and dryers—while the complex offers Zen garden courtyards, fitness centers and a resort-style swimming pool.

“Our Studio Directors pride themselves on creating modern living environments that go beyond what our client/partners ask and our residents demand,” says Chahbazian.

Both complexes target the millennial generation, which is mainly comprised of young professionals and students. These communities offer lifestyle amenities important to the millennial, or generation Y, renters. At the recent USC Casden Multifamily Forecast, experts explained this generation was looking for an array of onsite lifestyle options, like fitness centers, swimming pools and walkable communities.
