GlobeSt.com is partnering with SIOR for its Fall World Conference Oct. 24-26 in Chicago, IL. SIOR LIVE will provide coverage of the event, featuring pre-event articles, live video interviews on site and post-conference analysis.

CHICAGO—John M. Adams is a founding principal with Cushman & Wakefield/Cornerstone in Knoxville, Tenn. and the new chair of SIOR's digital media communication committee. He expects that this week's SIOR's Fall Conference will be one of the biggest ever and hopes one of the things attendees come away with this week is a better appreciation for the possibilities of technology.

“Many members of SIOR are in their 50s, so technology for some of the folks is sometimes hard to appreciate,” Adams says. SIOR hopes to entice attendees to download the organization's mobile app and get accustomed to accessing industry information from smartphones, tablet computers and other mobile devices. “And it's not just a membership app,” Adams adds. “We want to get it to corporate real estate folks and investors as well,” or anyone who may need to hire a broker and wants to access the organization's database “with the touch of a button on your phone.”

Conference attendees can use it to check the schedule, the attendee list and all of their contact information, a map of the Hyatt Regency Chicago, look over the biographies of the speakers, or read the latest news on SIOR's Twitter feed or Facebook page. “If you meet a possible contact at the conference, you can use the app instead of having to take someone's card. We're trying to help people use their time in the city as efficiently as possible.”

In addition, Adams and the other committee members will help publicize MySIOR, an online, private community for members and SIOR's various committees and chapters. Through it, members can access message boards, pages for all chapters and committees, connect with a network of friends, send messages, upload documents, access all SIOR resources and many other features. “The [digital media] committee has had many conference calls throughout the year,” he adds, and MySIOR made their work easier since all of the members could simply check their group's discussion board beforehand “instead of going through a hundred emails.”
