BALTIMORE-The Four Points by Sheraton BWI Airport plans to shut down on Nov. 30.

The closure of the 201-room hotel coincides with the end of a 30-year lease with the Maryland Aviation Administration, according to Kevin Carnes, general manager of the Four Points by Sheraton BWI Airport.

The property required about $2 million in renovation to meet standards of Starwood Hotels and Resorts, owner of the Sheraton brand, Carnes noted. The hotel has been impacted by a number of local economic factors, the federal sequestration and job cuts, according to the Baltimore Business Journal. In addition, the Maryland Aviation Administration is looking for ideas for a new airport hotel that would have added more competition to the Four Points.

The Maryland Aviation Administration will be soliciting hotel management companies in the near future to gauge interest in taking over the property for at least the next five years. See story in the Baltimore Business Journal.
