SUMMIT, NJ- Hollister Construction Services has started doing a major renovation of the former Barnes Chevrolet building here to create a state-of-the-art sales center for Smythe Volvo.
The Volvo dealership, currently located at 326 Morris Ave., will move to the renovated building on River Road in April.
The Barnes Chevrolet building will be gutted down to its block wall shell, said Hollister CEO Christopher Johnson, and expanded to offer 30,000 square feet – about three times the size of Smythe's current building on Morris Avenue. The existing brick façade will be replaced with a two-story glass storefront.
The original building's roof-top parking area will be transformed into an open-air third-floor showroom, with poly-tuff flooring and a canopy of solar panels.
Removing a central stair well will provide views from the second floor over a new glass railing to a tiled showroom below.
A full 17-bay service area will be installed on the first floor, below the River Road street level.
The architects for the project are S&L Architecture Studio and the engineers are Becht Engineering.
Hollister Construction, based in Parsippany and New York City, handles corporate, educational, healthcare, industrial, retail, and residential construction.
