WASHINGTON, DC-Two weeks after saying it is opening a new store near Nationals Park comes word from Whole Foods that it plans to open another new store in the district on H Street.
The new 39,000-square-foot store will be built underneath an apartment complex being developed by Insight Property Group, according to the Washington Post.
Counting the new store to be built as part of the $443-million development on New Jersey Avenue, the store on H Street will be the grocer's sixth in the district.
Scott Allshouse, Whole Foods Market's Mid-Atlantic regional president, said of the new H Street location, “That neighborhood reflects a lot of what Whole Foods is about—diversity, passion for food, history. Things like that. That's what we are too. We are so in tune with that. That sense of community and pride.” He adds that the grocer is also interested in perhaps opening a store at the Walter Reed project site. See story in the Washington Post.
