WEEKHAWKEN, NJ-This morning ground will be broken – ceremoniously, at least - atop the recently-opened Port Imperial parking garage, where two new Marriott hotels are to rise.

A 226-room Renaissance by Marriott and a 154-room Residence Inn by Marriott will stand side-by-side at the waterfront site. The parking garage is adjacent to the NY Waterway Port Imperial ferry terminal and across the street from a Hudson Bergen Light Rail station.

Weehawken Mayor Richard F. Turner is to join executives from XSS Hotels, which purchased development rights for the space above the parking garage from Roseland, a subsidiary of Mack-Cali Realty that is Port Imperial's master developer.

The Renaissance hotel will include a function space for up to 750 seated guests, a lounge and breakfast space and a 30,000-square-foot outdoor terrace with views of the Hudson River and Manhattan skyline.

The Residence Inn will have guest rooms with more than 400 square feet and fully-equipped in-suite kitchens, and free daily hot breakfast.

Guests from both hotels will have access to a high-end restaurant to be located on the sixth floor, as well as a shared pool and fitness center.

The Renaissance promises to bring more than 80 full-time jobs to Weehawken and the Residence Inn is expected to generate more than 35 full-time jobs.

The parking garage opened in September and includes 850 parking spaces. There is 17,000 square feet of ground-level retail space

Port Imperial is a 200-acre, $2 billion master-planned community that stretches two miles along the Hudson River.
