SAN FRANCISCO-Although it was founded here nearly 70 years ago, Grocery Outlet has had no store in the city since 2001. That will change this week.
According to the San Francisco Chronicle, the Berkeley company, which holds the licenses for 200 markets in California, Oregon, Washington, Nevada, Idaho and Pennsylvania, plans to open a 9,000-square-foot shop in the Richmond District.
Grocery Outlet calls itself "the largest extreme-value" grocer in the nation, offering discounts of up to 70%. The San Francisco store is owned and operated by Travis and Rose Dawson, who also own a Grocery Outlet in East San Jose.
