SECAUCUS, NJ-The opening of a Red Robin restaurant at Harmon Meadow signals more changes to come at the mixed-use complex, as a former office site is being redeveloped to retail/hotel use.

The 6,000-square-foot eatery will be joined by a 7,000-square-foot Buffalo Wild Wings restaurant to open nearby next month. Two new hotels also planned to open late next year at the complex off Route 3, which is owned by Hartz Mountain Industries.

Hartz created the 5.3-acre redevelopment site for the restaurants and a planned Aloft boutique hotel by taking down an older office building at 450 Harmon Meadow Boulevard that had been home to the National Basketball Association. The NBA had previously consolidated its space in a different building in Harmon Meadow.

Considering the poor market for office space in northern New Jersey – the vacancy rate has been stuck at about 20% for several years – Hartz decided not to build more at the complex, its executives have said.

At a second site within the complex where a six-screen movie theater had stood, a Residence Inn is now under construction. Harmon Meadow currently houses the Kersotes Showplace's 14-screen theater.

At yet another site, 100 Park Plaza Drive, a light-industrial building is being demolished and a 450-unit apartment complex is planned.
