MARINA DEL REY, CA-Nadel Architects-designed multifamily complex the Shores has completed construction and is accepting new tenants. Located at 4201 Via Marina in Marina del Rey, the $165 million project replaced a 1960 complex of two-story, garden-style apartment buildings.

Developed and owned by Shores LLC's Jerry Epstein and actor Kirk Douglas, the 544-unit complex has 12 interconnected, five-story buildings. The one- and two- bedroom interior units range in size from 750 to 1,410 square feet, while the complex amenities include a landscaped two-acre courtyard, a pool, two spas, a gym and community rooms. Common areas, like fire pits and barbeque areas, encourage community and interaction.

“Designing a complex of this size means accommodating a large number of residents and guests,” says Dale Yonkin, Nadel Architects project director. “We paid special attention to create an environment that had an open feel with spacious areas, while still incorporating a sense of community within the complex as a whole. The functionality and efficiency of the design provide the maximum amount of space for the common and living areas.”
