KATY, TX-Geico is opening a new office and will be occupying the entire 135,000-square-foot 21420 Merchants Way office building here.

The new office at Mason Creek Office Center I will serve as the Maryland-based insurance company's Houston Claims Center, according to the Houston Business Journal. Geico plans on investing $8.5 million in the facility and expects to create 1,000 new jobs during the next three years.

The developer of the building Myers, Crow & Saviers, Ltd. reports that Geico will occupy the entire office building, completed in late July, by the end of December. Griff Bandy and Jon Silberman of NAI Houston represented Geico in lease negotiations. Bob Cromwell and Kevin Nolan of MoodyRambin and Mark Saviers of Myers, Crow & Saviers represented the developer in the deal.

The developer also notes that with the successful lease-up of Phase I, it has launched a second office building, Mason Creek Office Center II, on a 9.3-acre site in Mason Creek Corporate Park, a covenant-restricted, master-planned business park owned by Parkside Capital. The three-story, 129,600-square-foot Phase II will feature 43,200-square-foot floor plates, energy-efficient construction and systems, and six per 1,000 parking ratios. See story in the Houston Business Journal.
