ST. LOUIS, MO-Discount home furnishing chain Ikea has confirmed that it will open its first store here at a site on Vandeventer and Forest Park avenues.
At a press conference at a CORTEX building on Forest Park Avenue on Wednesday, Ikea officials said the firm hopes to break ground on the 380,000-square-foot store in the summer of next year, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. The store is slated to open in the fall of 2015.
Ikea officials said they will hire about 300 people for the new store. The Swedish retailer is also building a 359,000-square-foot location in Kansas City that it hopes to open in the fall of 2014.
The St. Louis store will be in the mid-range of Ikea stores. Its store in San Diego is among Ikea's smallest in the U.S. at approximately 198,000 square feet. Its largest is its nearly 450,000-square-foot Schaumburg, IL location. See story in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
