MARLBORO, NJ-A Whole Foods Market is set to open in May here and will be followed by stores in Morristown and Cherry Hill.

The Texas-based grocery chain also plans to open stores in Parsippany, Clark, Closter and downtown Newark. There are already ten Whole Foods stores around the state, including those in Madison, Montclair, West Orange and the Vauxhall section of Union Township.

The company has said it will open a total of more than three dozen stores in the U.S. by the middle of next year. It currently operates about 370 markets. (read more here.)

Other chains have begun to give Whole Foods a run for its money in New Jersey, including Trader Joe's, Fairway and Kings Food Market, which all emphasize their organic offerings.

Whole Foods has responded with promotions such as “flash sales” and buy-one-get-one free offers, and continued plans for expansion.
