WOOD-RIDGE, NJ-Condominiums are coming to the 70-acre Wesmont Station development here, which so far has 400 rental units and 27,000 square feet of retail space.

Pulte Homes has begun building a community of 217 for-sale townhomes to be called Liberty Square at Wesmont Station. The condos will be part of a larger, mixed-use, transit-oriented neighborhood planned by lead developer Somerset Development.

Ralph Zucker, Somerset's president, said “Residents of this new community will be able to enjoy city-style walkability, transit access, and convenience in a more relaxed, suburban setting.”

Pulte's Matt Roesch noted that the new NJ TRANSIT train station being built at Wesmont will provide a 25-minute commute into New York City, and easy connection to points south.

The two- and three-bedroom townhomes in the Liberty Square community will range in size from 1,074 to 2,117 square feet. Each two- and three-story residence will include a one- or two-car garage.

Homes are being marketed now for occupancy by next summer.

“Wesmont Station represents a new chapter for Wood-Ridge's future as a world-class borough that provides a myriad of quality, upscale housing options, lifestyle conveniences, public transportation and community gathering places to the benefit of all of our residents,” Wood-Ridge mayor Paul Sarlo said at a ground-breaking this week.

The first phase of the Wesmont Station development was a 406-unit rental apartment complex, Avalon at Wesmont Station, developed by AvalonBay Communities, with adjacent retail space. The Milk & Honey Market has signed to occupy 10,000 square feet of the retail space.

Planned future development at Wesmont includes single-family homes and live/work townhomes. The entire community is designed to be pedestrian-friendly, with all buildings within walking distance of the NJ TRANSIT train station under construction.

Also, walking trails and bike paths will be featured throughout the community.

Wesmont Station is close to the Garden State Parkway and Routes 3, 4, 17, 46 and 80. Nearby shopping centers include the Garden State Plaza Mall, The Shoppes at Riverside, Bergen Town Center and Paramus Park.
