CHICAGO—Kelly Pipe Co., LLC has just purchased a 92,000-square-foot industrial warehouse located at 2200-2206 W. 159th Street in south suburban Markham. A distributor of steel pipe and fittings, the firm is currently located at 16750 S. Vincennes St. in nearby South Holland, but needs to expand in order to accommodate future growth. Founded in 1898, Kelly Pipe Co. stocks domestic and imported carbon steel pipe from sources around the world. The company has distribution centers throughout the US, Europe and Asia.

Kelly Pipe had been looking for a new home since mid-2012, either land for a BTS or the purchase of an existing building. The Markham location is a single-story warehouse featuring 18-foot high ceilings, two drive-in doors, heavy electric, and 75 surface parking spaces.

“Our client was attracted to the property for their own business use and accessibility to I-80 and I-294 touching all the points they need to reach,” explains Robert Tamillo, associate vice president of DTZ, which represented Kelly in the purchase. “They are planning a major retrofitting of the property, which began shortly after it was sold. Kelly Pipe plans to take occupancy within 90 days.”

Kelly Pipe will be relocating about 25 to 30 employees, adds Tamillo. Along with Senior Vice President Michael Piscoran of the DTZ Industrial Services team, he brokered the agreement with Ed Wabick, principal at Paine Wetzel, representing the seller – William Welty of Markham Property Management.
