LAS VEGAS-A former NBA player says he wants to build a $1.3 billion arena and hotel on the Las Vegas Strip, in the same town where he played college ball.
Las Vegas basketball player and businessman Jackie Robinson announced the project, tentatively called All Net Arena and Resort, earlier this week. It would be built near the renovated SLS Las Vegas hotel-casino and the Fontainebleau tower, reports say.
Robinson told the Associated Press that the project is privately funded, and that construction could begin next spring and be completed in 2016. The 22,000-seat stadium would be the second new arena planned for the tourist corridor. MGM Resorts International has partnered with sports and entertainment promoter AEG on a similar $350 million facility on the other side of the Strip. Renderings of design plans for the MGM project were made public in November. The arena portion of Robinson's proposal would cost about $690 million. His announcement also included images of a flashy building that would conform with the Vegas aesthetic.
