TEMPLE and WACO—Baylor Scott & White Health opened two new Duke Realty-developed outpatient clinic buildings in Texas, a cancer center, and the first orthopedic clinic in Texas to offer all orthopedic specialties in one facility.

The 75,000-square-foot, Roney Bone and Joint Institute is located on the main campus of the Scott & White Memorial Hospital, in Temple.

“The new Baylor Scott & White Cancer Center in Waco offers the widest range of cancer specialties, services and resources in a convenient, easily accessible outpatient facility,” says Robert W. Pryor, MD, Baylor Scott & White Health President and COO.

The 34,400-square-foot, Baylor Scott & White Cancer Center is located next to the Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center in Waco.

“The orthopedic clinic is the first of its kind in Texas, and the cancer center offers high-quality cancer care – from screening and diagnosis to treatment and follow-up – all in one location,” says Rich Couturier, Duke Realty Senior Vice President, Healthcare Development.

Specialists in the orthopedic clinic include psychiatrists, neurosurgeons, anesthesiologists, radiologists, physical therapists, occupational therapists, orthopedic surgeons, plastic surgeons and sports medicine specialists.

Specialized clinics and smaller medical buildings are becoming more prominent as medical providers seek to trim construction costs.

“Clinics and ambulatory centers are going to be prolific when you compare the cost of building those to a hospital. Clinics are much more cost effective and we will continue to see that trend,” said Don Powell, a principal with BOKA Powell architecture and design firm.
