Target Corp. reported that 70 million customer accounts were compromised over the holiday season, and this past weekend Neiman Marcus also reported breaches of their customer accounts. Who knows how many more attacks are out there.

Cyber risk seems pretty far away from managing risk for the hard asset real estate industry. Well, think again: we are increasingly asked by companies to help them recruit executives who can help them address a wide range of issues associated with “enterprise risk.”

The “Chief Risk Officer” typically works with the CEO to help manage concerns resulting from catastrophic weather, terrorist actions and all forms of crazies that have attacked retail malls, office buildings and other public gathering places, and generally all of the issues we face running a business in today's very risky world.

Think about it. What's risky in my business?

Alas, our world is more complicated, and every business is a risky business.
