NEW YORK CITY--In his most recent post, Ethan Penner identifies what it means to be a "face time" corporation, and discusses the problems associated with this culture.
According to Penner, face time is a way for employers to steal their employees' time: by putting the emphasis on time spent at the office rather than on productivity, an employer discourages efficiency, demanding the employee's time for him- or herself.
Penner sees this problem as pervasive to American corporate culture, and "among the most repulsive elements of our society." He explores how an organziation can cure itself of overvaluing face time over better indicators of success.
