NEW YORK CITY-Following a nearly two-year battle with pancreatic cancer, former JP Morgan managing director for real estate Anne Pfeiffer has died, reports Bloomberg. A member of last year's esteemed roster of “Legends, Women of Distinction” in sister publication Real Estate Forum, Pfeiffer led the bank's $23 billion Strategic Property Fund until retiring in October, 2013. She was 61.

A member of JPMorgan's real-estate financing unit for almost 35 years, Pfeiffer managed a seven-person portfolio-management team as head of the New York-based bank's commingled property funds, according to Bloomberg. Under her leadership, the Strategic Property Fund, JPMorgan's core real-estate portfolio, was the largest of its kind.

Pfeiffer joined the firm back in 1979 as senior finance officer, coming to the company from Coopers & Lybrand, where she was a supervising accountant, Forum reports. She served in several capacities at JPMorgan, including the head of the finance group, senior asset manager and acquisitions officer.

In a letter to clients in July announcing Pfeiffer's retirement, Kevin Faxon, the bank's head of real estate for the Americas, said, “Anne has been a masterful portfolio manager, an inspirational leader, a talented colleague and a true friend.”

She is survived by her husband, Paul Pfeiffer, children Christof and Kirsten, as well as her mother.
