I guess the Las Vegas comeback is a done deal if fashion retailers are coming to town – or actually to The Shops at Summerlin, the open-air “downtown” for Howard Hughes' masterplanned community in the Las Vegas Valley, the company announced.

Michael Kors, True Religion, Sephora and Victoria's Secret will join anchors Macy's, Dillard's and Nordstrom Rack, as well as previously announced American Eagle, The Art of Shaving, Bath & Body Works, Buckle, Clark's, Everything But Water, It'Sugar, Old Navy, Pandora, Resto Lounge, Sur La Table, Teavana and Ulta. The 1.6 million-square-foot center will eventually house some 125 retailers.

“There is tremendous pent-up demand in the community to create the ultimate venue for shopping, dining and entertainment, and the exceptional retailers we're bringing to The Shops at Summerlin will create an unrivaled experience for area residents and visitors,” said Kevin Orrock, President of Summerlin and vice president-Master Planned Communities for Hughes in the announcement. “These new fashion retailers will contribute to a dynamic and engaging downtown which will certainly evolve into a major destination for the entire region.”

It's been a long journey to get to this point. Originally to have been developed in 2007 by General Growth Properties, the project was delayed by the recession. GGP later spun the Summerlin community (which already includes 40,000 homes with a total of 200,000 to be built over the next 30 years) into Howard Hughes Corp. The Shops will be the first phase of a downtown that will eventually include entertainment, office space, a hotel and multifamily residential.

Land sales were going well at the last announcement last spring, and continue so according to a recent article in the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

After seeing so many stalled projects around Sin City, it's nice to report good news.
