NEW YORK CITY-TOPSHOP, the British clothing brand, is expanding its presence in the US, using the city as a jumping off point. The company has announced plans to open its second largest store in the world here this fall with a 40,000-square foot location on Fifth avenue at the corner of 49th St. The store will carry both the TOPSHOP and TOPMAN brands.
Further, TOPSHOP and TOPMAN will expand further within the US with four new store openings across the country. TOPSHOP and TOPMAN joint stores will debut in Fashion Valley San Diego (17,500 square feet), and a stand-alone TOPSHOP in Springfield Town Center Washington (5,000 square feet). TOPSHOP and TOPMAN joint stores will debut in spring, 2015 at the Galleria Mall Houston (16,500 square feet) and Lenox Square Mall Atlanta (15,500 square feet).
The new Manhattan store will sit adjacent to Rockefeller Center in a landmark building. The company already has a store in Soho, at 478 Broadway. The company's flagship retail outpost, it's largest in the world, is a 90,000-square-foot location on the corner of Oxford and Regent Street in the heart of London's West End.
The new New York site is an important milestone in retail architecture with the upper stories featuring art deco detailing while the lower floors are more contemporary with continuous glazing on two levels. The uniquely designed space allows for dynamic window displays creating a wrap-around dramatic impact on the prestigious corner site.
Fall 2013 saw a significant development in the TOPSHOP and TOPMAN partnership with Nordstrom, with several key openings. TOPSHOP now has presence within 42 Nordstrom stores, and TOPMAN has 49 locations. Discussions continue to build this partnership further over the coming months, with the plan being to extend TOPSHOP to 52 stores, and TOPMAN to 55 this Spring.
Says Sir Philip Green, CEO of Arcadia Group, TOPSHOP's parent, “Following the investment of Leonard Green & Partners in December 2012, it was always our plan to significantly expand TOPSHOP and TOPMAN in the USA, and their input and expertise within this market has been very welcome. In addition to our flagship stores expansion, we are continually developing our topshop.com and topman.com sites, and our on-going partnership with Nordstrom continues to develop. I am very excited about Fifth avenue, having looked for a location there for many years, and I believe this corner is both hugely prominent and perfectly located for our brands. I am also delighted to be entering new markets for the first time in the other great cities.”
