BELMAR, NJ-A real estate investment partnership has purchased the old Freedman's Bakery building here and plans to convert it into a microbrewery for Beach Haus beer with a tasting room, shops and sightseeing tours.

Joel Brudner of MB1 Capital Partners tells GlobeSt.com that he, his investment partner, and John Merklin – one of the founders of the East Coast Beer Co. - all grew up "down the shore." The beer company, which produces Beach Haus beer, has up to now done its craft brewing in leased facilities in Rochester, NY, though.

A microbrewing facility will be a first for the Jersey Shore.

"The Beach Haus beer label has been around since 2009," says Brudner, "and is distributed in six states." MB1 plans to lease the majority of the 30,000-square-foot building to Beach Haus, in which it owns an interest. Perimeter space will be built out for lease as retail shops, Brudner says.

"We are excited about creating a landmark in Belmar that will add even more to it as a major shoreline attraction," he says. Opening the brewery and tasting rooms to tours will provide a year-round draw, adds Merklin, and that will help boost neighboring businesses.

The brewery is to be outfitted with state-of-the art equipment to brew Beach Haus' entire portfolio of beer styles, says Merklin. It will produce and package for distribution to both wholesalers and retailers.
