COUNTY OF SAN BERNARDINO, CA-Intsel Steel West LLC, a growing supplier of steel to the construction industry, has selected the County of San Bernardino to locate its first California distribution facility. The company, which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Triple-S Steel Holdings Inc. based in Houston, purchased a five-acre, 50,000-square-foot distribution facility located at 13338 Napa St. in Fontana, CA.

The facility will warehouse, store, and distribute structural steel purchased in bulk to redistribute to fabricators and end-users. Intsel Steel previously operated a sales office in the Orange County city of Lake Forest consisting of three employees and outside sales representatives. They are now working out of the new Fontana site.

Additionally, the company has hired several new employees and plans to have a total of 20 employees in the coming months. "With the construction market picking up again in the region, we identified the County of San Bernardino as a strategic location to expand our operations," says Kevin M. Dempsey, vice president, with Intsel Steel West.

Dempsey explains that "It was important to find an affordable location that provided a logistics infrastructure to support both our rail and trucking requirements in order to serve California and other western markets… We expect future growth for our Inland Empire operations and are optimistic about increasing our market share throughout the region."

Dempsey notes that the County's economic development agency made the expansion a "smooth and seamless process," adding that "The County has emerged as a real partner in our success thanks to their pro-business approach."

Kelly Reenders, economic development administrator of the County of San Bernardino, says that "The County of San Bernardino is a natural choice for companies like Intsel Steel who are seeking an industrial location that also provides them with a skilled labor base and the logistical infrastructure to transport goods to key markets and customers."

According to Reenders, "the role of a public agency today is to provide the right support based on a company's unique needs in order to foster growth and long-term success."
