MIAMI—One of Florida's largest retail real estate firms is getting ready to push a little harder into the demand for leasing specialists that balance market intelligence with transactional guidance. CREC just promoted Sabrina Meerbott and Steven Henenfeld to the dual roles of co-director of retail leasing.

Both based in the firm's Coral Gables headquarters, the duo is charged with growing the firm's retail portfolio across Florida. The timing is no accident. CREC said the promotional moves coincide with the state's improving economy and a growing number of national and international retail brands entering the Florida market and expanding their presence here.

"CREC's position as the retail market leader in Florida stems from the expertise of professionals like Sabrina and Steven, who serve as partners and advisors to our clients," says CREC president and co-founder Carol Brooks. "Retailers from across the country are setting their sights on Florida just as property owners look to maximize value and grow their portfolios. Sabrina, Steven, and the rest of our retail team have positioned CREC as a valuable source of market intelligence for tenants and owners alike."

Meerbott and Henenfeld will oversee leasing responsibilities for some of the largest retail assets in CREC's 11.4 million-square-foot portfolio. The assignment includes properties in key submarkets across South and Central Florida.

"Many of our clients are in acquisition mode, while others are constantly looking for creative ways to enhance the value of their properties through leasing and management strategies," Brooks says. "Sabrina and Steven are on the front lines, so they have a good feel for today's market dynamics while benefiting from strong relationships with institutional owners and large anchor tenants alike. That's a powerful combination when it comes to underwriting a transaction or maximizing an asset's value."

A member of the firm since 1999, Brooks considers Meerbott instrumental in the growth of its retail agency leasing practice. She oversees a team handling a portfolio of 4.8 million square feet of space across the state.

Meerbott's experience includes leasing major assets such as Kendall Mall, Weston Lakes Plaza, LA Fitness Plaza and Doral Plaza in South Florida. Her tenant representation clients include PNC Bank, Destination XL, Crunch Fitness, and Corner Bakery Café. She is a member of the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC).

Henenfeld has worked closely with a number of institutional owners while working at CREC over the past decade. His clients include Principal, American Realty Advisors, Rialto, Lion Stone Group, RREEF, and Equity Residential. His current agency leasing portfolio includes Kendall Mall and Weston Lakes Plaza, Miller Square, West Sunset Square, Shoppes at City Centre, Country Club Plaza, Gables Grand. and Red Road Commons. Henenfeld is a licensed Florida Real Estate Broker and a member of the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC).
