CHICAGO—DTZ, a global property services firm headquartered in Chicago, has just hired Adam Stanley as its new chief information officer, effective March 3. He now oversees the technology systems and infrastructure for all of DTZ's businesses and reports directly to Tod Lickerman, global chief executive officer of DTZ.
It's just the latest move for a company that in the past few months has brought in a new group of top personnel. Last September, for example, GlobeSt.com reported that Lickerman would soon take over as CEO.
“Each of DTZ's regions brings to the table specific competencies and strengths,” Stanley tells GlobeSt.com. DTZ offices in Australia, Singapore and much of the Pacific region, for example, have become a laboratory for creative ideas on bringing new services to clients. And offices in the United Kingdom have become adept at designing efficient methods.
In the US, DTZ has recently made acquisitions that operate with different communication platforms.
"The growth in US will require even greater collaboration so we are having lots of conversations about improving how we can work together," Stanley says. "Part of that is exploring the multiple communications platforms inherited and determining options for better solutions."
Therefore, one of his main tasks at DTZ will be to figure out “how we get people across the globe to work together, share best practices and best serve our clients.”
Although Stanley is not yet committed to a specific strategy, he can draw heavily on the experience he gained from serving as the Chicago-based global chief technology officer of Aon, a provider of risk management, insurance and reinsurance brokerage, and from his most recent position as the London-based CTO of Aviva PLC, a FTSE 100 insurer and asset manager.
“At Aon we were using 62 different email platforms around the world,” he says. The situation at Aviva was similar, and he “moved both of them from platforms like Lotus to Office 365, Microsoft's cloud-based platform.” These moves helped thousands of employees around the world better collaborate via email, instant messaging and video conferencing.
“We're not going to build a central system of control at DTZ," he adds. "We're trying to share things globally.”
“DTZ will benefit greatly from Adam's broad global experience in complex technology systems and services driving value across DTZ's integrated platform,” says Lickerman.
Stanley was born on the city's South Side and holds an MBA from the Wharton School of Business. He has served on the Board of Trustees of Chicago State University, the advisory board of Cabrini Green Legal Aid and was a 2007 fellow of the nonprofit Leadership Greater Chicago.
“LGC pushes you to build a strong connection to Chicago and keep you here,” he says. It seems to have worked. “I keep moving away and coming back.”
