PHOENIX—Officials from the City of Mesa and the Sunridge Hotel Group, a Mesa-based hospitality development and management company, announce a plan to build a Courtyard by Marriott in the Gateway Airport area.
“We are pleased to welcome another Marriott property to our community,” Mesa mayor, and airport authority board member Scott Smith says. “Travelers flying in to Gateway for business or pleasure will have a convenient place to stay with easy freeway access just outside the entrance to the airport. It's a great addition to the area and yet another sign of the maturity and growing success of southeast Mesa.”
Courtyard is a brand of hotels owned by Marriott International. The property is designed for business travelers but also accommodates families. Its rooms feature desks, couches, free Internet access, and breakfasts. The hotel will also feature the Courtyard Bistro, a full-service restaurant, and a 24-hour mini-mart.
“This area is one of the fastest growing areas in the Valley, with the airport, tech companies and housing developments all calling it home,” District 6 city councilmember Scott Somers says. “Having this brand of hotel open a location here is really a testament to the work that we as a City Council have put in to making it a destination area in the State.”
The property, which will be located east of Power Road on Ray Road will have 99 rooms and is the ninth property built by Sunridge in Arizona and the first in Mesa. The company began operations in 1981 and focuses primarily in the hospitality industry with the development of approximately 40 hotel projects representing various hotel brands.
Construction is scheduled to begin this summer with a completion date in late spring 2015.
