JEFFERSON CITY, MO—A joint venture team of St. Louis-based McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. and Jefferson City, MO-based Sircal Contracting, Inc. just broke ground on a $37 million expansion project for Capital Region Medical Center, an affiliate of the University of Missouri Healthcare System. The 120,000-square-foot project in Jefferson City will include a new medical office building, new main entry and hospital connector, renovation to the existing outpatient entry and a new covered parking structure.
McCarthy specializes in the construction of healthcare facilities, among other building types. As reported in GlobeSt.com, for example, McCarthy was hired to replace the Joplin, MO hospital destroyed by a deadly tornado with the $335 million, 875,000-square-foot Mercy Hospital Joplin.
In this case, CRMC also wanted as much local involvement as possible on the project. “The company often partners with local contractors and is committed to hiring local when possible,” says McCarthy business development director Dan Cates. He points to the Good Samaritan Regional Health Center project in Mount Vernon, IL. “Eighty-five percent of subcontracted work on that project was from within a 100-mile radius of Mount Vernon.” McCarthy has partnered with Sircal on previous projects in central Missouri.
Simon Oswald Associates designed the expansion based on a philosophy of patient-centered care. In addition to physician offices, the facility will include therapies, pharmacy, radiology and a breast center. The builders expect to finish in late spring 2015.
