ROWLAND HEIGHTS, CA—Canadian developer Parallax Investment Corp. has revealed plans to develop a 250-room hotel on the former John Rowland site in Rowland Heights. The proposed five- or six-story hotel includes 100,000-square-feet of retail and restaurant space.

The 14-acre John Rowland property has been vacant for several years. This hotel development will sit on a 5.5-acres on Gale Avenue. The Rowland Heights Community Council met with the developer to view the hotel plans, but has not yet voted on approval. However, even if the project plans were approved, construction would be delayed for the next two years while a railroad underpass is built along Nogales Street.

Hotel development in Los Angeles is booming. New boutique hotels like the Ace Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles and the Line in Koreatown have already opened while massive hotel developments, like the Wilshire Grand and Renaissance Marriott are already underway, and new hotel developments are announced all the time. Last week, GlobeSt.com reported that West Hollywood will get its first ground-up hotel in 30 years, the James Hotel on the Sunset Strip. The CIM Group and Denihan Hospitality Group are leading the development project, which is expected to completed in 2016.

We will update this story as more information becomes available.
