HOUSTON—Local developer Midway Companies said this week that it plans to build a 225-room, 25-story luxury hotel before the end of 2016, in anticipation of the 2017 Super Bowl. Hotel Alessandra will be on the site of the former Yao Restaurant & Bar where demolition work beginning this summer.

Houston-based Valencia Group is partnering on the project and will operate the hotel for Midway.

Midway hopes to compete with other five-star accommodations as the Four Seasons, St. Regis and Hotel Granduca, according to a report in the Houston Chronicle.
