MORENO VALLEY, CA—Supermarket chain Aldi has acquired 55-acre site in Moreno Valley with plans to locate a regional headquarter and to build a Southern California distribution center. The chain also has its sites set on launching 650 new stores in the US in the next five years, according to a recent report in the Los Angeles Times.

Illinois-based Aldi plans to build 850,000-square-foot DC east of the 215 Freeway. It would serve about 200 stores in the region, the Times says, quoting real estate brokerage the Klabin Co.

The site has entitlements for large-scale warehouse development, Klabin Co. president David Prior told the paper.
