CHICAGO—The suburbs continue to struggle with vacancies, but many office properties remain appealing. The Missner Group has just acquired the former home of Japanese electronics firm OMRON, a pair of single-story office properties totaling 75,000-square-feet in suburban Schaumburg. This opportunity arose when the company decided to move its headquarters to a 71,139-square-foot property in Hoffman Estates' Greenspoint Office Park.

Located a half mile east of the I-90 and Roselle Rd. interchange, the buildings, which have 52,000-square-feet and 23,000-square-feet, sit on seven contiguous acres of land at 1 E. Commerce Dr. and 55 E. Commerce Dr.

“Due to OMRON's need to remove the assets from their books, we saw an opportunity to secure two well-maintained properties within close proximity to the tollway,” says Barry Missner, president of the Skokie-based Missner. “We plan to bring the properties back to market either for sale or lease and expect that they will appeal to a wide spectrum of users. The location itself is a strong attribute, but the extra land available at the site strengthens the opportunity as it can accommodate additional parking or building expansions.”

A few deals recently signed show that many others find the submarket appealing. In addition to OMRON deciding to stay in the neighborhood, for example, Zurich Insurance closed on the acquisition of more than 30 acres at the former Motorola Solutions campus in Schaumburg, where it plans to build a North American headquarters.

Edward Adler led the acquisition of the properties on behalf of Missner and was represented by Jason Simon of Colliers International. Andrea Van Gelder and Sean Reynolds of JLL represented OMRON.
