CARLSBAD, NM—Plans for a 1,250-acre, master-planned community in south Carlsbad include homes, hotels, a truck stop and other commercial development, and those plans are nearing approval.

Developers for El Dorado Ranch are in the asking the city of Carlsbad to annex the unincorporated area near Cavern City Airport, according to a local media report. The proposed community would be on the east side of U.S. Highway 62-180, across from the airport.

Shaun Culler of the firm Global Markets told the Albuquerque Journal that the proposal may include hotels, a truck stop and other commercial properties, but 70% of the property would be devoted to some sort of housing.
