MILWAUKEE—Healthcare providers have begun changing how they serve patients, with many putting more emphasis on smaller, easy-to-access specialized facilities. And Children's Hospital of Wisconsin has decided to help continue that trend by working with the Ryan Companies US, Inc. to develop a new, 30,000-square-foot clinic in suburban Delafield.
The developers began making initial improvements to the 5.1-acre site, located at 3195 Hillside Dr., earlier this month. Construction on the two-story building will occur over the summer with a projected opening in late 2014.
“We are focused on bringing primary and specialty care closer to home for more families,” says Marc Gorelick, MD, executive vice president, Children's Hospital. Last year, the hospital opened a primary care clinic at Northside YMCA, a primary care clinic at COA Goldin Center, and a specialty care clinic in Fox Point.
The Delafield clinic will provide asthma/allergy; cardiology; dermatology; ear, nose and throat; gastroenterology; orthopedics and urology specialty care; primary care; imaging, and physical and occupational therapy for children and adolescents. It will also have a lab and pharmacy.
The developers will conform to the general development plan of the area by using precast brick for the building's shell, and double-glazed insulated window panels and aluminum paneling to give it a contemporary look. The use of pre-cast brick will reduce construction time dramatically, Ryan officials say, cutting out approximately 1-1/2 months compared to regular brick construction.

Ryan will provide development, design-build construction and real estate management services for the project. Joining Marks on Ryan's team are division manager Hans Muecke; senior project manager Nick Kaminski; senior superintendent Les Fialco and senior project assistant Lisa Sefranek. Zimmerman Architectural Studios, Inc. serves as the project's architect-of-record. Associated Bank has provided construction financing for the project.
