PHOENIX—McMillan Commercial Real Estate, an Arizona commercial real estate firm exclusively representing tenants and corporate space users, announces that they have entered into an agreement to merge with Keyser to lead the firm's growing Educational Practice Group. Keyser merged with Catalyst in April.

“I am very pleased to be able to announce this merger," states Andy McMillan, CEO of McMillan Commercial Real Estate. "After working together for some time and really getting to know the Keyser team, it became clear that we have a strong philosophical alignment as well as the unique opportunity to create extraordinary synergies. Merging simply made sense and will be a benefit to both of our respective clients.”

The newly combined entity will operate under the Keyser brand, and the McMillan team's focus will be to lead and grow Keyser's Educational Services Division.

McMillan tells GlobeSt.com that his team's market focus will be on seeking the best possible properties for schools, charter schools in particular. It's a complicated matter. While there is a lot of office space available, very little of it meets the needs of educational facilities. Their goal is to create a national platform out of Phoenix to transform how educational users will operate.

“It's not as exciting as other markets,” McMillan says. “But there is a massive need for this.”

“It's complicated, hard work,” Jonathon Keyser tells GlobeSt.com. “There's not a lot of profit in it unlike office. We are working with these visionaries and educators who want to transform education and don't have the background it takes to find the right space.”

McMillan's team faces challenges when finding the right space for a school. There are ingress and egress issues, traffic patterns to consider, playground areas, what schools can and can't be located near.

“The list is long,” says Keyser. “And it's unusual in commercial real estate. Unfortunately many schools have been poorly positioned in the past through poorly structured deals that were just not right for them. Keyser is looking to change that on a national scale. We will be the advocate 100% for our clients in finding the space that meets their needs.”

Keyser says it's part of the company's mission: We succeed by helping others succeed.

“This isn't just about one deal at a time,” says Keyser. “This is about the bigger picture. It's about education. It's about teachers and it's about children getting their education in the right environment.”
