OAKLAND, CA—David McCarty, a former major league baseball player whose 15-year professional career includes positions with such teams as the World Series champions Boston Red Sox, San Francisco Giants and Oakland A's, has been named a principal in the Oakland office of Lee & Associates. McCarty tells GlobeSt.com that the Oakland Metropolitan office market has really started to heat up over the last 12 months.

“Activity has increased significantly as tenants are getting priced out of San Francisco and large blocks of space are getting harder to find,” he tells GlobeSt.com. “Recently SfunCube leased 14,707 square feet at the Wakefield Building in Downtown Oakland and late last week an undisclosed tech company represented by myself and Craig Hagglund, our office president, leased a full floor (+-24,000 square feet) in downtown Oakland.”

The latter deal, he says, will be very significant in that it is one of the larger technology oriented lease deals the downtown market has seen this year. “The uptick in activity has caused us to see leases getting signed in class-A buildings at over $36 per square foot for the first time since before the market crashed and we expect lease rates to continue climbing as more space is absorbed over the remaining three quarters of 2014.”

Since joining the Lee & Associates team eight years ago, “Dave has become a crucial component in our office,” notes Craig Hagglund, president of Lee & Associates Oakland. “Aside from his amazing career in the big leagues, Dave has aptly shown his motivation and dedication to his business and his clients and has become one of our top producers in this office. We are fortunate to have him on our team.”

A graduate of Stanford University, McCarty started his career in commercial real estate in 2006 following his 15-year baseball career. A specialist in sales and leasing in the Bay Area's industrial and office markets, McCarty has completed more than 44 leases and sales Since January 2013.
