NEW ORLEANS–On Monday, AM Agrigen Industries announced it has chosen a St. Charles Parish site in Killona, LA as the potential future home of a $1.2 billion plant. The 650-acre site will manufacture granulated urea, a widely used fertilizer.
The company is currently in the midst of feasibility studies, after which AM Agrigen will make its final decision by the first quarter 2015. The plant is expected to create 150 direct jobs with an average annual salary of $55,000 per year. There will be an additional 1,025 indirect jobs, according to Louisiana Economic Development.
“AM Agrigen's commitment to our state demonstrates the strategic value of Louisiana's world-scale industrial infrastructure and our emergence as one of the very best business climates in the US,” said Governor Bobby Jindal in a statement. “As this project crystallizes, we look forward to the creation of more highly skilled jobs that build ever-increasing career opportunities for the families of Louisiana."
Construction on the plant is expected to begin by the middle of 2015 and complete sometime in late 2017 or early 2018. AM Agrigen will fund the project through a collection of global and domestic investors.
The state of Louisiana, which started wooing AM Agrigen in October 2012, offered AM Agrigen a $5.6 million performance-based grant in order to offset infrastructure costs.
