BULLHEAD CITYAn $18 million assisted living facility broke ground in Brookfield Communities' Fox Creek master-planned development. Joshua Springs will be a 95,300-square-foot facility with 74 assisted living apartments and 30 apartments specifically built for the memory care residents.

The facility will be built in Fox Creek, one of the region's master-planned communities with thousands of homes and residents. Joshua Springs will be located adjacent to a planned five-acre medical office complex anchored by five 7,500-square-foot medical office buildings, targeted and marketed to medical/physician practices and health-related service providers. The care facility is expected to create more than 50 full-time jobs.

Phil Petersen, founder and president of Brookfield Communities, the developer of Fox Creek, tells GlobeSt.com, “The site is located on Bullhead Parkway and is surrounded by new residential development where the demographic is 50-plus. The idea is that these folks will have parents who will move into the facility. It's a great fit for the area. Bullhead City is the perfect sized market for this type of use. It's a natural draw with the casinos, and Laughlin—it's the right demographic.”

Brookfield Communities sold the land for the Joshua Springs in 2012 to Oregon-based Link Development, a developer who specializes in assisted living facilities. The community will be managed and operated by a Washington-based Milestone Retirement Communities, a firm that specializes in senior living. Joshua Springs will be completed by summer 2015.

Link Development has 10 projects in several western states. Milestone manages and operates 28 communities throughout the United States.

“Assisted living facilities require a deep understanding of the entire care continuum,” says Link Development founder, president and CEO Ron Ziebart. “Since we specialize in these types of projects, we have vast expertise to make sure they serve their purpose and care for those in need. We are proud to be bringing our model of care to the region with Joshua Springs. Our mission is powerful yet simple; we are dedicated to create a community with a hospitality feel which offers many amenities and clinical needs catering to the needs of our residents.”

Some amenities include: bistro, hair salon/barber ship, theatre, spa and exercise room, billiards room and card and game rooms and library.”

While construction commences at Joshua Springs, Brookfield Communities is also building its newest neighborhood at Fox Creek, The Ridge. The Ridge at Fox Creek sits on a high ridge at Brookfield Communities' master-planned community near the Colorado River and across from Laughlin, Nev. The Ridge, with mountain and desert views, is on the highest point in Fox Creek. It is comprised of four separate ridgelines and features natural arroyos, unspoiled terrain and high desert vegetation.

“This is an exciting time at Fox Creek,” adds Petersen. “We are also building a commercial area, a professional medical office plaza on 4.5 acres to serve the residents, as well as a shopping area similar to Kierland in Scottsdale with outdoor amenities, recreation areas, unique restaurants and shopping.”
