HANOVER, MD—The Cordish Cos. are talking with county officials about building a $200-million hotel adjacent to its Maryland Live Casino at Arundel Mills.

An affiliate of Cordish owns the casino and David S. Cordish, chairman and CEO of the Baltimore-based company, says the hotel component was part of the original lease with the property owner.

"That will be a phase two," Cordish says. "We're now turning our attention to it." He says the hotel would likely be a mid- to high-rise tower next to the casino that will feature 300 rooms, a spa and possibly meeting space and could open by 2016, according to the Baltimore Sun.

"It's as much a reward for our base customers," Cordish says. "A lot of these gamblers go when you're sound asleep. It's 2, 3, 4 in the morning. You're going to comp them a room. … We'll be able to add another weapon to our arsenal." See story in the Baltimore Sun.
