COLUMBUS—Bellwether Enterprise Real Estate Capital LLC, a subsidiary of
Enterprise Community Investment, Inc. has been expanding across the country in recent months, opening up a Western Regional office in California and another office in Boston. But it also aims to keep adding staff nearer its home base of Cleveland. The commercial and multifamily mortgage banking firm just hired Douglas S. Brooks as senior vice president as part of its origination team. He will work out of the Columbus office.

Brooks joins Bellwether from Forest City Enterprises, Inc., where he originated and structured construction, permanent, TIF and credit tenant lease non-recourse financing for commercial real estate projects. While at Forest City, Brooks was responsible for financing more than 100 transactions totaling more than $2.7 billion of gross loan proceeds. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Accounting from Ohio Wesleyan University.

“Doug will be a welcome addition to an already strong Columbus production team,” says Ned Huffman, president of Bellwether. “His experience originating commercial mortgage loans and his 20-plus years of relationships will help maintain our strong Midwest presence.”

As reported in GlobeSt.com, Bellwether recently won approval to provide loan origination and financing strategy for a $700 million project in Cleveland, which will put more than 1,000 apartments on Lake Erie.

“We're in expansion mode as we move into new territories to the North, South and most recently the Western region of the US,” Huffman adds, “but the Midwest will always be an important area for us.”
