When Steve Jobs returned to Apple, the company was broken, under siege and a serious underdog in the world of computer technology. By the time he passed away, Apple has grown to become an iconic brand that represented creativity, innovation and breakthrough products.

In a Wall Street Journal article on Tuesday, a former Steve Jobs employee was quoted to say, “The only thing that Steve cared about was creating great products. The company, the employees, were only there to facilitate that goal”.

His successor, Tim Cook, is focused on creating a “kinder, gentler workplace.” He is a “consensus builder” among the senior development team, creating a more collegial and collaborative environment and reducing the “chaos” that sometimes surrounded Job's management approach.

As an iPhone loyalist, I grumble that Tim Cook created so much harmony at Apple, yet his team forgot to notice that a simple win would have been to produce a large-screen iPhone.

Alas for Apple, Cuddly Tim is gearing up to launch a large-screen format in the fall, a day late and dollar short. So much for creativity and innovation.
