CHICAGO—CommonWealth REIT has just appointed Adam Markman as its new executive vice president, chief financial officer and treasurer, effective July 14, 2014. Markman will handle finance and accounting, capital markets, investor relations, and treasury for the trust.

Prior to joining CommonWealth, Markman worked at Green Street Advisors, Inc., a real estate research firm, from 1994 to 2014, eventually serving as managing director. While at Green Street, Markman was in charge of the firm's consulting and advisory practice, played a key role in the firm's REIT investment arm and led the firm's retail and lodging research efforts.

He has also served as a real estate consultant at Kenneth Leventhal & Co. Markman was a member of Green Street's board of directors, and currently sits on Mark IV Capital's board of directors and the executive committee of U.C. Irvine's Center for Real Estate.

"We are thrilled to welcome Adam to the team," says Sam Zell, chairman of CommonWealth REIT. "Adam will play an important role in helping lead the company going forward."
