CHICAGO—The Village of Burr Ridge, a Chicago suburb, has just approved the construction of a 40,000-square-foot community that will accommodate up to 76 full-time residents with memory loss. Anthem Memory Care, an Oregon-based firm that owns and operates assisted living centers, will begin construction on the $12 million facility in September. This will be its first facility in the Chicago metro area, although they have plans to build several more.
Upon completion, the community at 15W150 S. Frontage Rd. will employ about 50 full-time equivalent employees. Anthem's plans for the community were approved at the bimonthly meeting of the Mayor and Board of Trustees on Monday, July 14.
“We intend to set the standard for the care of Alzheimer's and other dementia in the region for residents, their families, employees, and the community,” says Isaac Scott, a principal of Anthem. “We have carefully analyzed the market and determined a clear need for stand-alone memory care in Burr Ridge, and expect this is the first of several communities we bring to Chicagoland.”
Anthem plans to open the Burr Ridge community in July 2015. Its contractors include CB Two Architects, the Adair Group, several general contractors, and Woolpert Inc., a civil engineering firm. In addition to this Illinois project, Anthem owns and operates communities in California and Colorado.
“Our enthusiasm is further fueled by knowing that it will complement and complete the other medical facilities existing in the village, and seeing how well they worked with the community development department,” says Mayor Mickey Straub.
Anthem currently has two other properties in the Chicago area under contract, including 17833 S. Harlem Rd. in Tinley Park and 1879 Chestnut Ave. in Glenview. Company officials say they are pursuing as many as seven locations throughout the metro area. Michael Prost, a senior vice president with Lee & Associates, is representing Anthem in its transactions.
