EL SEGUNDO, CA—Directv has completed green renovations to its 299,000-square-foot headquarter building at located at 2260 E. Imperial Hwy. in El Segundo, CA. The green renovations have earned the building a LEED Platinum certification for interior design and construction and a LEED Silver certification for the building's core and shell.

“Achieving LEED Platinum certification demonstrates our commitment to conserve energy and reduce waste from our operations, as well as our commitment to communities where we live and work,” says Mike White, Directv chairman, president and CEO. “This certification reinforces our goal to reduce the carbon footprint of our US operations by 5% by 2015, compared to our 2011 baseline.” The company did not reposnd to a request for additional comment before the publication of this story.

Directv began the renovations in 2011, and completely redesigned the space to achieve the highest green standard through the Green Building Council. During the construction process, 97% of the construction waste was diverted from landfills and 64% of the construction materials were either recycled or locally sourced. And, the result is pretty impressive: 97% of the building's equipment and appliances are Energy Star rated, 96% of the lighting is equipped with occupancy sensors and lighting power density was reduced by 21% with the implementation of LED lighting. Additionally, the building is equipped with efficient mechanical equipment and fresh air exchanges to promote employee health.

AECOM served as architect and designer of the project, while JLL managed the project and the LEED certification process. Other companies who helped make Directv's vision a reality include ARC Engineering, which served as the mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineer, and Clune Construction, which provided construction services.

Directv has occupied the building since renovations began in 2011, just after the company signed what at the time was the largest office lease of the decade: a 630,000-square-foot, 15-year lease in three buildings on the campus.
