TOKYO—Iconic Southern California retail brand Fred Segal plans to open its first international lifestyle center here in Spring 2015. Marking the brand's first location outside the US, Fred Segal will occupy three of five buildings in a converted railway site at 13 Daikanyama-cho Shibuya-ku, Tokyo.

Fred Segal Daikanyama will bring together a well-curated mix of luxury products across men's, women's and accessories, as well as home and lifestyle categories, from both independent brands and Fred Segal-branded merchandise. The collection of stores will present an ever-changing platform for both local and international emerging, up-and-coming designers, specially merchandised to engage Japan's trendsetters. The store is the first in a long-term partnership between Sandow, owner of Fred Segal, and Mark Styler Co. Ltd., to launch Fred Segal throughout Japan. The partnership deal was handled by Culture + Commerce, Sandow's creative management agency.

“The original Fred Segal stores in LA have always appealed to the Japanese consumer who has an appreciation for cutting-edge style and Southern California culture,” said Paul Blum, CEO of Fred Segal. “Tokyo is absolutely the right market for us to launch Fred Segal's first international location and the innovative Daikanyama site will do a great job of reflecting our brand's sensibility. We're pleased to be working with our partner Mark Styler, who has deep experience in the Japanese fashion and retail market and truly understands the Fred Segal brand.”

Featuring a café, spa and other luxury services, this unique retail destination will reflect Fred Segal's Southern California culture. The Tokyo debut will be followed by several additional retail locations in other key Japanese cities, including flagship stores, lifestyle centers and branded boutiques within major, high-end department stores.

Founded in 1961, Fred Segal is rooted in Hollywood culture and has long been known for discovering and launching many now-famous beauty and apparel brands. From its early days as the pioneer of designer jeans to its current status as an industry innovator, Fred Segal originated experiential retail with its mix of highly curated merchandise and the best in dining and lifestyle offerings. With three Los Angeles locations, Fred Segal is synonymous with LA style and casual chic, attracting celebrities and locals alike. Fred Segal will open seven stores in Las Vegas in August and in Tokyo and other locations across Japan in 2015. Fred Segal is majority owned by Sandow, a leader in building smart businesses driven by innovation and design, along with minority equity investor Evolution Media Partners, a joint venture of Hollywood talent agency CAA, private equity firm TPG Growth and Participant Media.
