DALLAS—Oak Lawn Plaza is getting a re-do.

The 128,795-square-foot class A office property, located in Uptown adjacent to the Dallas North Tollway, will undergo a $3.8 million redesign by Gaedeke Group LLC that will “catapult the property into the 21st century.”

"It's going to be a major change," said CEO Sabine Gaedeke Stener in a press release of the project at the eight-story building that sits on 1.5 acres.

So far, the firm has commissioned architect Mark Dilworth of Dallas-based Morrison, Dilworth + Walls to create the new design. Construction is slated to begin in October and will take approximately eight months to complete.

The architectural firm, whose notable projects include NorthPark Center, One Arts Plaza and A.H. Belo Corp.'s headquarters, is aiming to eliminate the building's 1980s-esque look by adding “crisp, clean” new lines.

While reps for Gaedeke did not return a phone call for additional comments, the lobby will be expanded by more than 3,000 square feet and the ceiling height will be raised to 25 feet; exterior walls redressed with a 25-foot full-height glass curtain wall; and the interior will be transformed with white marble walls and basalt stone floors. Other aspects: commissioned artwork, a high-tech security desk, WiFi furniture and an updated three-level parking garage.

Oak Lawn Plaza, completed in 1983, was designed by Phillip Shepherd of Shepherd & Boyd Architects, whose work includes Dallas landmarks such as the Mansion on Turtle Creek and The Crescent.

"Oak Lawn Plaza is a fairly complicated form," Dilworth says. "We wanted our intervention to be as simple as it could be, to be compatible with the existing building.”
